Oil Change: 4th Gen Tacoma 2.4L Turbo
The 4th gen Tacoma's turbocharged engine requires 0W-20 full synthetic oil. Toyota recommends oil changes every 10,000 miles under normal conditions, or every 5,000 miles for severe-duty usage (dusty trails, frequent towing).
What You Need
- 6.1 quarts 0W-20 full synthetic oil
- Toyota oil filter (04152-YZZA1 or equivalent)
- 14mm drain plug socket
- Oil drain pan
- Torque wrench
Steps
- Warm up the engine for 2-3 minutes to thin the oil
- Raise the vehicle or use ramps for access
- Locate the oil drain plug on the bottom of the oil pan and remove it (14mm)
- Allow oil to drain completely (5-10 minutes)
- Replace the drain plug and torque to 30 ft-lbs
- Remove the old oil filter (top-mount cartridge style)
- Install new filter with a fresh O-ring (lightly oil the O-ring)
- Add 6.1 quarts of 0W-20 synthetic oil through the fill cap
- Start engine, check for leaks, verify oil level on dipstick
Reset the Maintenance Light
Turn ignition to ON (don't start), press the trip odometer button until it shows the maintenance interval, then hold the button for 5 seconds until it resets.
