Maintenance Guide

Transmission Fluid Service: 3rd Gen Tacoma

Toyota officially states the automatic transmission fluid in the 3rd gen Tacoma is "lifetime" and doesn't require changing. However, many enthusiasts and independent mechanics recommend changing it every 60,000-100,000 miles for longevity.

Automatic Transmission (A750F)

  • Fluid type: Toyota WS (World Standard) ATF
  • Capacity: ~3.7 quarts for a drain-and-fill
  • No serviceable filter — only accessible via pan drop

Manual Transmission

  • Fluid type: Toyota Genuine Manual Transmission Gear Oil LV 75W
  • Interval: Every 30,000 miles recommended
  • Capacity: ~2.3 quarts

For the automatic, a simple drain-and-fill through the drain plug is the safest approach. Avoid full flushes on high-mileage transmissions that have never been serviced.
