Frame Rust: 2nd Gen Tacoma
The 2005-2015 Tacoma is subject to a well-known frame rust issue, particularly in regions that use road salt. Toyota issued a Limited Service Campaign (Customer Support Program ZE7/ZE8) to address premature frame corrosion.
What to Know
- Toyota offered free frame inspections and, in severe cases, complete frame replacements
- The program covered 2005-2010 model years primarily, with some 2011-2015 trucks eligible
- Many frames were coated with a rust-preventative compound under the TSB
Prevention Tips
- Apply annual undercoating (fluid-film or similar) before winter
- Wash the undercarriage regularly during salt season
- Inspect frame crossmembers and leaf spring mounts annually
- Address any surface rust immediately with rust converter and paint
- If purchasing used, inspect the frame thoroughly — especially near the rear axle and cab mounts
If your truck hasn't been treated under the TSB, contact your Toyota dealer with your VIN to check eligibility.
