Just got off the phone with my dealer here in Colorado and I'm pretty frustrated. My 2024 Trailhunter's LED bed rail cap got cracked during a camping trip last month, and now there's moisture building up inside the light housing. When I brought it in for warranty repair, the service department told me they can't even find the part in Toyota's system.

According to the tech, when they run my VIN, the system shows that LED bed rail caps "don't exist" for my truck. They're treating it like an aftermarket accessory even though it came from the factory. The service manager said they've never replaced one before and can't even give me a labor estimate because their techs haven't been trained on the wiring harness.

This is a $70k truck and I'm worried about moisture getting into the electrical system. Has anyone else run into this parts availability issue? I'm thinking about escalating to Toyota corporate, but wanted to see if this is a widespread problem first. The truck is amazing off-road, but these kinds of support issues are making me second-guess the Trailhunter premium.

I had the exact same issue with my TRD Pro bed rails! The dealer kept insisting the LED caps weren't "real" Toyota parts. Took three trips and finally the service manager had to call Toyota's regional tech support. Turns out there's a specific VIN lookup process they weren't doing correctly - they were just searching by year/model instead of the full VIN sequence.

The part numbers are apparently restricted to prevent regular Tacoma owners from retrofitting them. Once they got it sorted, the parts took about 2 weeks to arrive. Definitely push back and ask them to contact their Toyota technical specialist.

This is exactly why I went with the TRD Off-Road instead of the Trailhunter. Don't get me wrong, the Trailhunter is an incredible package, but I was worried about stuff like this - complex integrated systems with limited dealer knowledge. The LED bed lighting is cool, but if moisture gets in there and starts affecting the truck's electrical system, you're looking at way more than a $450 repair.

Have you tried documenting everything with photos? That moisture buildup could lead to bigger electrical gremlins down the road if it gets into the CAN bus system.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I took detailed photos of the moisture and the lifting bed cap, and I'm scheduling another appointment next week. Going to specifically ask them to run the full VIN lookup and contact the regional technical specialist if needed.

What's frustrating is that this feels like a known issue - the bed caps seem prone to lifting under pressure from tonneau covers and accessories. For a truck designed for overlanding, having the weather sealing fail this easily is concerning. I'll update this thread once I get some resolution from the dealer.
