Finally ready to ditch the stock chrome front bumper on my 2019 TRD Sport. The thing looks dated and doesn't offer any real protection for the trails I'm hitting around the Great Smoky Mountains.

I've been eyeing a few options but wanted to get some real-world feedback before dropping serious cash:

  • CBI Offroad Covert Front Bumper - Love the clean lines and integrated recovery points
  • C4 Fabrication Hybrid Front Bumper - Seems like good bang for buck with decent approach angle improvement
  • RCI Metalworks offerings - Heard mixed things about fitment but they look bomber

Anyone running these or have other suggestions? Looking for something that improves approach angle, has recovery points, and won't break the bank. Not trying to go full rock crawler here, just want something functional that looks better than chrome.

I've been running the CBI Covert bumper for about 8 months now and absolutely love it. The fitment was perfect right out of the box, and the powder coating has held up great through multiple Moab trips.

The integrated recovery points are clutch - used them twice already to help pull other rigs out. Only downside is you'll need to trim some plastic behind the bumper for proper fitment, but CBI provides good instructions. Approach angle improvement is noticeable compared to stock.

C4 Fabrication gets my vote for sure. I went with their hybrid setup last year and it's been fantastic. Way easier on the wallet than some of the premium options but still built solid.

Fair warning though - you'll want to factor in winch mounting if that's on your radar. The C4 bumper accommodates most standard winches but you'll need their specific mounting plate. Check out SmokyMtnTaco on YouTube - pretty sure he did a detailed install video on the C4 setup.

Had the RCI on my previous Taco and honestly wouldn't recommend it. The welds looked great but fitment was a nightmare - took me and my buddy most of a weekend to get it lined up right. Customer service wasn't super helpful either.

Ended up going CBI on my current truck and the difference in quality and fitment is night and day. Yeah it costs more upfront but you get what you pay for. Plus the resale value holds better if you ever decide to upgrade again.
