Just finished installing both Diode Dynamics SS3 Sport pods and Cali Raised LED 4-inch pods on my 2022 Tacoma TRD Off-Road for some side-by-side testing. Been running them for about 3 weeks now on various night runs through the Smoky Mountains.

Here's what I've noticed so far:

  • Build quality: Both feel solid, but the DD pods have a more premium feel with the machined housing
  • Light output: SS3s throw farther but Cali Raised has better flood coverage
  • Price: Cali Raised obviously wins here at about half the cost
  • Installation: Both came with good wiring harnesses, DD instructions were clearer

Anyone else run both of these? Curious if my observations match what others have seen. Still trying to decide which set stays on the truck long-term.

I've been running the Cali Raised 4-inch pods for over a year now and they've been bulletproof. Took them through Moab twice and countless desert runs with zero issues.

The value proposition is just too good to ignore - you're getting like 90% of the performance for 50% of the cost. Sure, the DD pods might have that premium feel, but when they're mounted under my bumper getting pelted with rocks and dirt, I care more about function than form.

Good comparison! I went with the SS3 Sports in yellow specifically for the throw distance on night trail runs. The selective yellow really cuts through dust and fog better than white light.

Have you tried the SS3s in different beam patterns? I'm running the combo beam and it's perfect for my needs. Check out SmokyMtnTaco on YouTube - he did a great night run video showing different pod setups.

Team Cali Raised here! Been running their 4-inch floods as ditch lights for two years. The spread pattern is fantastic for trail work and the price point let me buy backup pods without breaking the bank.

That said, your point about DD's throw distance is spot on. If I was doing more high-speed desert running, I'd probably spring for the SS3s. For technical rock crawling and forest trails, the Cali Raised flood pattern works perfectly.
