After running both systems in different trucks over the past couple years, figured I'd share some thoughts for anyone on the fence between Decked drawer systems and RCI Metalworks bed drawers.

Decked System (2022-2023):

  • Super easy install, literally bolt and go
  • Weather sealing is excellent, stayed bone dry through Pacific Northwest winters
  • Load capacity is solid at 2000lbs distributed
  • But... the plastic construction showed wear faster than expected on rough trails

RCI System (2023-present):

  • All-aluminum construction feels bombproof
  • Modular design lets you configure exactly what you need
  • Drawer slides are butter smooth even when loaded heavy
  • Installation requires more fabrication but worth the extra effort

Both have served me well on trips through Moab and the Mojave, but if I had to pick one for long-term durability, RCI takes the win. The price difference is significant though - what's been your experience with either system?

Great writeup! I've been running the RCI system for about 18 months now and completely agree on the build quality. Those aluminum drawer slides are incredible - I've loaded mine up with recovery gear, tools, and camping supplies and they still glide like new.

One thing I'd add is the customization options with RCI are unmatched. I was able to spec mine with dividers, a slide-out table, and even integrated tie-down points. Decked is more plug-and-play but you're stuck with their configuration.

Been considering both of these for my 2024 TRD Pro. How's the bed space utilization compare between the two? I need to still be able to haul my mountain bike and some longer gear occasionally.

Also curious about noise - do either of them rattle or make noise when empty over rough terrain? Planning some trips through the Great Smoky Mountains this summer and don't want constant rattling.

@authorIndex3 - The RCI system actually utilizes space better in my experience. You can spec the drawer heights exactly how you want, so I have one shallow drawer for tools and frequently used items, and one deeper drawer for bulkier camping gear.

As for noise, both systems are pretty quiet when properly installed. The RCI has adjustable drawer stops that eliminate any play, and I added some foam padding in high-contact areas just to be extra sure. Zero rattles after 15k miles including some gnarly stuff in Big Bend.

For bike transport, I actually run a C4 Fabrication bed rack above my RCI drawers - gives you the best of both worlds. Check out SmokyMtnTaco on YouTube, pretty sure he has a similar setup showcased in some of his adventure videos.
