Hey Northeast crew! With winter approaching fast, I'm looking to swap out my BFGoodrich KO2s for some dedicated winter rubber. I've got a 2022 OR and do a fair amount of driving in the White Mountains and Green Mountains during ski season.

I'm torn between a few options:

  • Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V2 - heard great things about ice traction
  • Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3 SUV - expensive but supposedly bulletproof
  • General Altimax Arctic 12 - budget friendly option

Anyone running winter tires on their Taco in New England? Really want something that'll handle those surprise ice storms we get in Vermont. Size is 265/70R17 if that matters.

Blizzak DM-V2 all the way! Been running them for three winters now on my 2020 TRD Sport here in New Hampshire. The ice performance is incredible - night and day difference from all-terrains.

I drive Route 16 to North Conway regularly and these tires inspire confidence even on those sketchy morning commutes when everything's glazed over. Only downside is they wear pretty quick if you forget to swap them out come spring.

Another vote for the Blizzaks here. I'm up in Maine and put about 15k miles on my first set over two seasons. They're not cheap but worth every penny when you're climbing some of those steep dirt roads to get to trailheads.

The Nokians are supposedly even better but the price difference is pretty steep. For most Northeast driving, the Bridgestones are perfect.

Don't sleep on the Michelin X-Ice Snow either! Just mounted a set on my 2023 OR last week. Haven't had a chance to test them in real conditions yet but the reviews are solid and they're supposed to last longer than the Blizzaks.

Whatever you choose, definitely get dedicated winter wheels too. Makes the seasonal swaps so much easier and protects your stock OR wheels from all the road salt we get hammered with up here.
