Hey everyone! Just moved to a new house and finally have a garage for my 2022 Tacoma TRD Sport. Even though it's in the garage, I'm still paranoid about theft - especially with all the recent reports about Tacoma thefts in my area.

I'm looking for recommendations on the best anti-theft devices that work well when the truck is parked in a garage. I've been considering:

  • Steering wheel locks (old school but visible deterrent)
  • Kill switches
  • GPS tracking systems
  • Pedal locks or brake locks

What do you all use when your Taco is parked at home? I know the garage itself is great security, but I want that extra peace of mind. Bonus points if it doesn't interfere with my Warn winch or CBI front bumper setup!

I run a combination approach on my 2020 TRD Off-Road. Got a Club steering wheel lock (yeah, retro but thieves hate visible deterrents) and installed a hidden kill switch that cuts power to the fuel pump. The kill switch was super easy to wire in - took maybe 30 minutes and cost under $20.

Also invested in a quality GPS tracker that sends alerts to my phone. Even if someone manages to get it started, I'll know immediately and can track its location. Worth every penny for peace of mind!

Honestly, the best deterrent I've found is making my truck less appealing than the neighbor's. I keep a beat-up tarp over mine in the garage and remove my Diode Dynamics light bar when I'm not using it for a few days.

But for actual security devices, I swear by pedal locks. They're invisible from outside but make the truck impossible to drive even if someone bypasses the ignition. Plus they don't interfere with any of your front end mods.

Check out SmokyMtnTaco on YouTube - he did a great video comparing different anti-theft options a few months back. Really solid breakdown of pros and cons.

I ended up going with his recommendation for a combination of hidden kill switch plus Apple AirTag tucked away in a secret spot. The AirTag isn't as sophisticated as a dedicated GPS tracker, but it's cheap and works great as a backup location method. My buddy actually recovered his stolen truck using an AirTag when the thieves thought they'd disabled all the tracking!
