Figured it was time to share my thoughts on my 2018 TRD Pro after 85,000 miles and 5+ years of ownership. This truck has been everywhere from the Smoky Mountains to Moab, and I've put it through its paces both on and off-road.

The Good:

  • Engine reliability has been bulletproof - zero major issues with the 3.5L V6
  • Fox shocks still perform well, though I'm considering King upgrades
  • Crawl Control saved my bacon multiple times on technical terrain
  • Paint has held up surprisingly well despite rock chips
  • Resale value is still strong based on recent appraisals

The Not So Good:

  • Rear leaf springs started sagging around 70k miles under constant heavy loads
  • Driver seat bolster showing significant wear
  • Infotainment system occasionally freezes and needs a hard reset
  • Fuel economy averages 18-19 mpg with my driving style

Overall, I'd absolutely buy another one. The reliability and capability have been outstanding, and the few issues I've had are relatively minor. Anyone else with high-mileage 3rd gens want to share their experiences?

Great write-up! I'm at 72k on my 2019 TRD Off Road and experiencing similar rear leaf spring sag. Ended up going with Icon Vehicle Dynamics leaf packs and it completely transformed the rear end. Night and day difference in load carrying and ride quality.

Have you done anything about the infotainment freezing? Mine does the same thing, usually when it's really hot or cold outside.

Those Fox shocks on the TRD Pro are solid but if you're thinking King upgrades, I can't recommend them enough. Made the switch at 60k miles and the difference in damping control is incredible, especially on high-speed desert runs.

Your fuel economy sounds about right - I average 18.5 mpg with BFGoodrich KO2s and a roof rack. The 3.5L is thirsty but the power delivery makes up for it.

85k miles on a TRD Pro and still loving it - that says everything! I'm only at 35k on my 2020 but already planning long-term mods. Did you stick with the factory skid plates or upgrade to something like RCI Metalworks?

Also curious about maintenance costs over that mileage. Any major services outside the normal schedule?
