If your Tacoma is approaching or has passed 100,000 miles, the cooling system is one maintenance area worth keeping on your radar.
My 2018 3rd Gen Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport has reached the 100K-mile mark, so I put together a video showing how I did a complete radiator coolant drain and fill using Toyota coolant.
Watch the video here:
Coolant plays an important role in protecting the engine and cooling system. Over time, its protective additives can degrade, which is why replacing it at the appropriate service interval is an important part of long-term Tacoma maintenance.
In the video, I go through the process from start to finish, including draining the old coolant, refilling the system with Toyota coolant, working the air out of the system, checking the final coolant level, and a few things to watch for along the way.
I also used eManualOnline as a reference during the project to check repair information and procedures. If you're interested, my discount code there is SMOKYMTN22.
I'm curious what everyone else is doing with their higher-mileage Tacomas.
When did you first change the coolant in your Tacoma?
Did you follow Toyota's recommended interval, change it early, or are you still running the original coolant past 100K?
Also, do you prefer doing a basic radiator drain and fill or a more complete cooling-system flush?
If you've done this maintenance yourself, post your Tacoma's year, mileage, and anything you learned from the job. It would be great to build a useful 100K-mile maintenance discussion for other Tacoma owners.
